It takes time to gather the data. But with employees consistently working from home for the last few months, security researchers have been able to quantify and monitor just how secure your business is with a remote staff.
While employees love the flexibility, new data reveals the harsh truth of having employees work from home without setting up proper security protocols.
Research from Capterra, in their Remote Work Survey of 2020, suggests that employees are pretty lax in practicing good security:
Its certainly possible employees are lacking in a robust security awareness training but 64% claim to have had some training.
Another factor could be that only 24 percent of businesses maintain a dedicated security staff where that person is known to employees. With nearly a third of employees falling victim to phishing scams (which nearly half – 45% – were COVID-19 related), the training may not be regular enough – which is crucial to create a security culture and a security mindset on the part of the employee.
Benefits of Security Awareness Training
Intentional and regularly scheduled security awareness training keeps employees on track regarding their role in corporate security and the need for good security practices to be put into place. With quarterly training, your employees can be reminded of the need for improved password hygiene and how to constantly be looking for scams that take advantage of current events.
A good portion of remote workers aren’t coming back to the office so now is a great time to put an additional protection layer in place through educating your remote employees. If you need assistance with putting a security training plan in place contact DarkHound at [email protected].
